New adventure for Royston Drenthe in Spanish football. The Dutchman, formerly of Real Madrid, was presented as a new player for Racing Mérida City, a club in the First Division of Extremadura, the sixth category at the national level. The 35-year-old left-handed insider continues his career in modest football after playing last season for Real Murcia in the RFEF First Division.

After being considered the best European under-21 player in 2007 , he signed for Real Madrid in exchange for 13 million. Despite the fact that he signed a five-year contract, he barely played 64 games with the white team in three seasons and later linked two loans to Hércules and Everton . He has also participated in the leagues of Turkey, Russia or the United Arab Emirates.

He started last season at Racing Murcia, where he scored four goals in nine games in Group XIII of the Murcian Third Division. From there he went to Real Murcia, but he only played 89 minutes in nine games and did not score a single goal . He never started and did not earn the coach's trust because of his poor form.

Now he arrives at Racing Mérida City, which belongs to the City Group company, which also owns Racing Murcia and Racing Madrid. In fact, in mid-August, he took it for granted that he would sign for Racing Madrid, although he has ended up in Mérida.

FIRST EXTREMADURA

His new club, Racing Mérida City, reached an agreement with Atlético Vivero at the end of the league to be able to play in the First Division of Extremadura, a regional category that is just below the Third Division. In the capital of Extremadura, the first club in the city is the Mérida Sports Association, which this season will play in the First Federation.

Along with Naser Al-Tamimi , the owner of the Grupo Racing City group is the Italian-Australian Morris Pagniello , who was present at the start of Drenthe in Mérida and has the former Real Madrid Colombian player in the technical direction, Edwin Congo . This company -which was born in 2018 with the creation of Racing Murcia- has just acquired the Mar Menor team.

In Australia, this company has the Racing Bundoora United City FC and Racing Belconnen United City FC teams. In Italy, with Racing Capri; in the United States, with Racing Los Angeles, Racing Sacramento, Racing Dallas, Racing Houston, Racing Las Vegas; and in the United Arab Emirates with the Dibba Al-Hisn. In addition, it has two youth soccer academies, the Rayo Vallecano International and the Genova International School of Soccer.
